I had a long drive back north from Jindabyne last night. I made it as far as New Castle and thought, why not check out the Port Stephens area, something I have meant to do for a few years now? So I ended up checking into Ramada Resort, Shoal Bay.
I woke up this morning to a very overcast sky, so I decided to stay in bed. Around 11 a.m., I wandered down to Mermaids Café and had one of the best Eggs Benedict and Cappuccino I've had so far. As the day started to get warmer, I decided to stroll to Tomaree Head to check out one of the WW II six-inch gun emplacements.
Tomaree Head has a vibrant Australian military history. The headland, part of Fort Tomaree, played an essential role in Australia’s east coast defense system during World War II. I salute the men and women of the ANZAC for their service and sacrifice. Thank you. Lest We Forget.
Here are some pictures of the area I took today. The first two photos show the six-inch gun emplacement.
